Office Christmas Party Catering Ideas for Sydney Teams
Somewhere in your office right now, someone has just been handed the job of organising the Christmas party. If that someone is you, welcome. The good news is that the food is the part people remember most, and with a little planning it is also the easiest part to get right.
At The Sydney Catering Co, we cater office Christmas parties across Sydney, from boardroom celebrations in the CBD to relaxed long lunches on the North Shore and Northern Beaches. Below are the ideas we see working best for Sydney teams this year, plus a few practical tips to make the day run smoothly.
1. Canapés and Drinks in the Office
The classic for a reason. A canapé and drinks function keeps everyone on their feet, mingling across teams who might not normally talk, and it works in almost any space, from an open-plan office to a rooftop terrace. A good canapé menu moves from fresh and light to something more substantial as the evening goes on, so nobody heads home hungry.
Our canapé packages start from $42 per person, and the larger packages add substantial items and signature bowls for longer events where canapés are effectively dinner. [Internal link: /canape-menu]
2. A Pizza Station
If your team is more "relaxed Friday arvo" than "cocktail party", a pizza station is hard to beat. Pizzas come out fresh every few minutes, the smell alone draws people in, and it is easy to cater for vegetarian guests. It is also one of our most popular offerings across the whole year. 3. Paella Cooked on Site
Few things create a sense of occasion like a giant paella pan being cooked in front of your guests. It is generous, it is a talking point, and it works beautifully for an outdoor courtyard, terrace or warehouse-style space in the warmer December evenings. [Internal link: /paella]
4. A Grazing Table as the Centrepiece
For an afternoon celebration or a long lunch, a grazing table gives you a striking centrepiece that guests can return to all afternoon. Premium cured meats, cheeses, fresh produce and breads, styled to look as good in photos as it tastes. [Internal link: /grazingtable]
5. A Long Shared Lunch
Some teams would rather sit down together, especially smaller groups who want a proper end-of-year thank-you. A shared, feasting-style lunch with platters down the middle of the table feels generous and festive without the formality of a plated dinner. [Internal link: /feastingmenu]
6. Christmas Flavours, Without the Heavy Roast
A December party in Sydney does not need a hot roast dinner. We like to bring in the festive feel through flavour instead, with touches like glazed ham, summer salads and fresh, seasonal produce that suits a warm evening.
7. Make the Drinks Easy
The bar is often the most stressful part to organise, from buying stock to working out who serves it. A beverage package takes care of it in one line item: wine, sparkling, beer, non-alcoholic options and soft drinks, served by RSA-certified staff, with glassware included. Our House package starts from $26 per person for two hours. [Internal link: /beverage-packages-sydney]
8. Look After Every Guest's Dietary Needs
In any office there will be vegetarians, vegans, people avoiding gluten and a few with allergies. The best Christmas parties plan for this from the start, so every guest has plenty to eat, rather than a lonely plate set aside at the last minute. Tell us your numbers and we will build these options into the menu from day one.
Planning Tips for Your Office Christmas Party
Book early. December Fridays, especially 4, 11 and 18 December, are the most popular dates in Sydney and go first. Locking in your caterer in October gives you the widest choice of date, menu and team.
Check your space. If your office has no full kitchen, that is fine. We regularly set up a complete working kitchen on site with our own ovens and cooktops, and we are used to working with building managers, loading docks and service lifts.
Set your headcount and budget range early. Even a rough number helps us suggest the right format, from canapés for 30 to a full long lunch for 100.
Think about timing. A 4pm start suits a canapé and drinks function after work, while a long lunch works best from around 12:30pm.
Book by 31 October for a Free Drinks Upgrade
To thank teams who plan ahead, any corporate end-of-year function booked with a canapé and drinks package before 31 October receives a free upgrade from our House to our Premium beverage package.
