Pizza Station and Canapé Catering in Sydney: Two Parties, One Saturday

Spring party season is well and truly here. Last Saturday we catered two very different celebrations back to back: a relaxed afternoon canapé party at home, followed by an evening pizza and salad station for 100 guests. One was all about elegant bites passed around a garden, the other about a crowd gathering around the pizza as it came off the heat. Both are the kind of event we love doing most, and together they show just how flexible chef-run party catering in Sydney can be.

An Afternoon Canapé Party

Our first event of the day started at 2pm, with one chef and one waiter on site from 1pm to set up and look after guests for the afternoon. The brief was a proper menu that would carry guests right through the party, so we built it like a meal in canapé form: six canapés, then something more substantial, a signature bowl and a dessert to finish.

On the menu:

  • Duck pancakes

  • Goat's cheese tarts

  • Heirloom tomato tarts

  • Arancini

  • Prawn and pork dim sum

  • Wagyu beef skewers

  • Fish tacos

  • Chicken, chorizo and prawn paella, served in bowls

  • Yuzu and lemon tarts with torched meringue

Everything was prepared in our commercial kitchen in Warriewood and finished on site, so the hot canapés went out hot and the tarts went out crisp. That's the difference a chef on site makes. The paella in particular is always a crowd favourite: it gives guests something warm and generous in the middle of the afternoon, and it means nobody leaves hungry.

This style of menu is ideal for milestone birthdays, engagement parties and long afternoon gatherings where a sit-down meal would feel too formal but a few nibbles wouldn't be enough.

A Pizza and Salad Station for 100

As the canapé party wrapped up, our second team was already setting up for the evening. Robbie and Maira ran a pizza and salad station for 100 guests, with pizza service running from 7:30pm to 9pm.

Pizza stations are our most popular offering, and it's easy to see why. Pizzas are made fresh to order, so they arrive at the table hot, and guests naturally gather around the station to watch them being made. It brings a great, social energy to a party without anyone having to sit down at a set time, and it takes the pressure off the hosts entirely.

Pairing the pizza with fresh salads keeps the spread balanced, and makes it easy to look after vegetarian guests and anyone wanting something lighter.

Why a Pizza Station Works So Well for Big Groups

If you're feeding a crowd of 50, 100 or more, a pizza station is one of the easiest ways to do it well:

  • Fresh and hot every time – pizzas are cooked in rounds throughout service, rather than sitting in warmers

  • Built-in entertainment – watching the chefs at work becomes part of the evening

  • Easy on dietary needs – vegetarian and other options are simple to build into the menu, alongside fresh salads

  • No fuss for the host – we bring the setup, cook on site and clean up, so you can enjoy your own party

  • Flexible timing – service runs over a set window, so guests eat when they're ready

Canapés or a Pizza Station: Which Is Right for Your Event?

It mostly comes down to the feel you want. Canapés suit a more polished occasion, where guests are mingling with a drink in hand and food comes to them. A pizza station suits a relaxed, festive crowd that enjoys gathering around the food. Plenty of hosts combine the two, starting with a round of canapés as guests arrive and moving to the pizza station once the party gets going.

After more than 20 years cooking on private superyachts and in villas across the Mediterranean and Indonesia, Robbie is used to tailoring every menu to the occasion and the guests. We're always happy to talk through the options and suggest what will work best for your numbers, venue and budget.
